Losing $1000 in my first ever poker tournie

I will never forget the time I lost a $1000 in the first online poker tournament I had entered; I was bored with all the usual lack of entertainment on the TV and none of my mates were going for a beer, it happens and did what I normally do in such circumstances I played around on my computer and trawled through the net. Looking for interest and entertainment I came across a poker room and after scanning all the well designed pages I decided that it was time for me to join in. Signing up at the online casino was straightforward and although I did look at online bingo and other casino games, decided that I would try my hand at poker.
The game I had joined was Hold’em and I soon discovered that I did not have a clue what it was, never mind how to play it! Before very long I had lost my first $1000 and then I did what I should have done, and what you should do and that was to learn the rules of, not just Texas Hold’em, but all the online poker games.
I did this by going on to a few online poker sites and getting some online poker tips that all the good sites offer and soon knew that a pair of Kings lost to a couple of Aces. The sites were helpful in many other ways too; I registered with several sites and took up their offers of bonuses which are usually offered to any new player who is registering for the first time. I actually found an online poker room that game me free games and I ended up winning real money, this was a factor in me deciding that I would take the online game seriously and now I am an online poker pro.
My experience is one that happens to lots of people when they first decide to play online poker, but don’t be put off at the thought of losing some money. If you do your homework, check out the online poker sites and know the rules you can have hours of enjoyment and like me win money.

Hi there. I know exactly where you are coming from.
It is so worth checking out the online poker tutorials that are available. Without looking into these rules and guides you will be completely screwed when you try and play.
You might get lucky but if you dont know what strength hand you have you might as well give them all your money and leave the table!!
I hope after you learned your lesson that you turned your luck around.

Ouch! That’s definately a good tip for new players - check out the rules!
Luckily I played for fun with friends for years before I got serious…that provided me with the apprenticeship I needed.

well that is awfully unfortunate. I would just regard that as bad luck - dont let it put you off playing again
