My tips for bluffing at poker

Posted on 14-06-2007 | Posted in General by Gambling Diva

I soon found out playing poker that it is not always what hand you have got but what your opponents think that you actually have. I bluff at poker and anyone who is serious at the game would follow me at my game, because I bet making my opponents think that I have a far better hand than I might actually have, a tactic used by all good players. I soon found out that when I first started joining in online poker rooms, that I was not having much success, in other words I was losing money, this quickly changed when I started to bluff my fellow online poker players. My tactic remains that I do not bluff too much especially in limit games but at what I believe, through my experience at the online sites, at a proper frequency which I have found increasingly forces my opponents to fold.

I found out that there are good times to bluff as well as bad times, which is something that comes with experience, but let me pass on a few tips. I always bluff when I think that an opponent has a hand which looks a winner, for instance if I think that he has a flush, I bet as though I too have flush so others believe that I have. I never try to bluff a poor player because these losers usually haven’t a clue what you are doing, so what is the point. I never try to bluff several players as I find, as you will, that it is almost impossible to fool all of them and then I am in trouble. I play in low limit Hold’em games but I tend not to bluff in these as there seems little point in raising a bet to see your card if the cost to see me is not significant. If I have been caught bluffing, I make a point of not bluffing again for a long time, I might even wait for another online poker room before I bluff again. My best advice is to tell you that bluffing is an art and you should make it part of your arsenal, however like me, do not make it your only weapon at the online poker table.

I love playing poker, but I have never got to grips with bluffing or reading other peoples bluffs. I usually play online so I guess you dont need to worry about your poker face! However I like to through people off a bit by betting big when I have rubbish cards that way when I finally have good cards they dont know what I am thinking. So I guess you could say that is a bit of a bluff, but the number of times it pays off probably does not make me very good at it.

I like playing poker more for the fun of the game. The card game takes a lot of skill and I think that people are afraid of playing cecause of all the controversy surrounding it. It is a skill game, much more so than casino game swhich generally are games of chance. Who knows if you should bet all red or all black?!!

The great thing about poker is it makes you think ahead all the time, and I like a game where I can use my head.

One of the things I didn’t like about online poker at first was that it’s a lot more difficult to look out for bluffs.

I got used to it after a while though and now it just brings another dimension to the game. You have to watch every player and see what hands they’re winning and with what cards. There’s no poker face when playing online!
